Situated on the waterside at Salford Quays, The Lowry houses two theatres, a studio space, art galleries, cafés, bars, a restaurant, gift shop and Salford’s Tourist Information Centre. The Lowry's Lyric and Quays Theatres offer a wealth of entertainment including West End musicals, drama, live bands, comedians, and world class dance and opera.

Gallery entry is free and visitors can enjoy the work of one of the nation's favourite artists, LS Lowry, in changing exhibitions, alongside exhibitions featuring artists of local, national and international renown. A range of family activities make The Lowry a great day out for all ages.

Opening Times:

The building -
Unless there is a theatre performance or significant public activity in the building, from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive the building will close at 8pm. On Sunday and Monday the building will close at 6pm. Admission is free.

Bank Holidays -
On Bank Holidays when there is no theatre performance or major activity in the building, The Lowry will close at 5pm.

Access for blind and visually impaired people:

Audio described theatre events.
The Lowry uses a number of different organisations to provide audio description service in the theatres – usually Vocaleyes or Anne Hornsby from Mind’s Eye. The person providing the service at a particular event is specified on the website or you can ask a member of Box Office staff.

Free personal guide to take you around the galleries
Audio described Gallery Tours can include the content of the painting, its colours, size, style and potential impact on the viewer, as well as placing the painting in its historical context.  Anne Hornsby of Mind’s Eye provides the audio described tours along with a member of The Lowry galleries’ team.  The tours take place on certain dates, which can be found either on the website or by asking a member of Box Office staff. If these dates do not suit you, contact Box Office at least 2 weeks in advance to arrange a tour.

All Lowry-produced printed material is available in large print

You can receive an audio season brochure on CD or download from the website. Contact Box Office on info@thelowry.com or 0870 066 6842 to join the mailing list to receive either large print or audio information

When Vocaleyes are providing the audio described performance service, Braille cast sheets are available.

There are touch tours approximately one hour before each audio described theatre performance.

Access for Deaf, deafened and hearing impaired people:

Regular Stagetext Captioned and Sign language interpreted theatre performances. Details of who is providing the service is specified on the website or you can ask a member of our Box Office. Lists of shows with captioning or sign language interpretation are available from the website or contact Box Office on info@thelowry.com to join the mailing list.

The advanced notice email service, My Lowry, lets you be the first to know when the events you are interested in are announced and you will also receive a reminder approximately one month before each accessible theatre performance.

Access for mobility impaired people:

Access to all levels of the building is available via lifts, ramps and escalators
Main entrance to the theatre is located on a flat level. There are two sets of double doors either side of a central block. These open both outwards and inwards. The doors on the right hand side have a button to press to the left of the doors for automatic opening.

No steps at the entrance to the building. Once inside, there are stairs to get to the other levels of the building, or all of these areas can be accessed by lifts.

The ground level of the building is on a sloping floor with wheelchair accessible lifts available to all levels of the building

The Lowry is an accessible space. Wheelchair users are advised to inform the Box Office when booking tickets for a theatre event so the staff can ensure all seating requirements are met.

The Lyric Theatre has 18 potential* wheelchair accessible spaces, the Quays Theatre has a potential of 30 spaces and The Studio, 7.

*These figures are based on an empty auditorium, as one wheelchair space takes up two seats, so these seats would have to be available.

The Box Office counter, Information Desk and areas of the Terrace and Quays bars are at a low level.  Low level leaflet racks are available.  A telephone is available for wheelchair users at the Box Office counter

4 wheelchairs are available for hire free of charge.  These can be booked through Box Office either in advance or on the day subject to availability (3 manual and 1 motorised). A deposit is to be left when hiring these wheelchairs.

General access information:

Passenger drop-off point at the roundabout in front of The Lowry

Designated parking spaces for wheelchair users next to The Lowry available via the security barriers on the access road on the right hand side of the building, these operate on a first-come, first-served basis.  Parking is also available in the Designer Outlet multi-storey car park, which also has designated areas for wheelchair users on each level

Working dogs are welcome and water bowls are provided when requested

Lowry staff have received basic disability equality training

Disabled people are offered discounts and are entitled to bring an essential carer free of charge.  These discounts and the free companion tickets are subject to availability and may vary according to the visiting producer and the show

The Lowry offer a money-back guarantee for all of their accessible performances so that you can try out the service and see what you think. If you are unhappy with the service, please speak to a member of staff on the night of the show.

Directions

The Lowry is 10 minutes drive from Manchester City Centre, 20 minutes drive from Manchester Airport, and a quarter of a mile from the motorway network.

From the M60 take junction 12 for the M602. Salford Quays is a quarter of a mile from junction 3 of the M602. Follow the brown Lowry logo signs.

There is a passenger drop-off point immediately in front of The Lowry.  Secure parking is available in the Lowry Outlet Mall multi-storey car park, which also has designated areas for disabled people on each level.

To reduce your waiting time at the end of the evening we strongly recommend that you pre-pay for your parking at a cost of £4 (valid between 17.00 to 01.00 hours). Simply take your ticket to the car park office when you enter the car park - located in the basement car park by the Marks and Spencer/Nike escalator.

Metrolink
From Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria rail stations you can travel to The Lowry by Metrolink tram. From Oxford Rd train station take the 5 minute walk up Oxford St to St Peter's Square Metrolink stop and take the Eccles tram. You should alight at Harbour City, a 10 minute walk from The Lowry.
