Unrealised Potential

Unrealised Potential is a collaborative group exhibition organised by artist/curator Mike Chavez-Dawson in conjunction with Sam Ely and Lynn Harris, the founders of Unrealised Projects. Together they’ve amassed a collection of artists’ abandoned exhibition proposals and are offering other people the opportunity to finally bring those ideas to life.

In one of Cornerhouse’s galleries, you’ll see how artists Brian Reed and Len Horsey have rethought an unrealised project by Liam Gillick, PLANTA DE ANODIZADO. Gillick originally wanted to display the products and services of Mexican company LGD LUCK SA, while Reed and Horsey have turned the gallery space into a mock business pavilion, advertising LGD LUCK SA’s wares. In another gallery you’ll find all six volumes of Unrealised Projects’ publications, listing the abandoned proposals that they’ve gathered to date. Visitors to the exhibition have the option to buy the rights to any one of these projects.  Chavez-Dawson claims that he wants this exhibition to blur the lines between artist, curator, visitor and producer.

In the final gallery, you’ll see RELAX’s Strategic Questions 2002-2010, curated by Gavin Wade, which features a caged depositary of answers to the question ‘What is Wealth?’ Visitors are invited to participate in the discussion.
